A Swimming Star is Born!

Today was Sarah’s first ever trip to the swimming pool! Knowing how much she loves to kick in a deep bath, I had been looking forward to this all week! Sarah and I had even gone shopping on Wednesday to buy her a pair of swimming togs. We picked out a bright, bright pink suit – nice and colourful so she could be easily spotted, lots of material to grab a hold of if she wriggled and a neck to knee number so that it would hold the swim nappy on well and wouldn’t ride up sitting in the floatie seat.

We went to the Gould Adams Aquatic Centre, which is where Sarah’s Auntie ‘Cole does aqua classes. In summer they do Mum & Baby Aqua! Auntie ‘Cole came along to play photographer (after signing a 4 page privacy policy document…) and join in with Sarah’s first swim. Sarah’s friend Jessica came along to watch too. Poor Jess had to miss out of the swim though as she was just getting over some sniffles.

Sarah took to the water like a duck! She splashed and kicked and smiled like crazy at the people who swam past her. We were in the water for over nearly an hour and only got out when Sarah’s little toes were going all wrinkly.

It was a very exciting trip! So much so that Sarah fell asleep in her car seat before we even left the carpark, and didn’t even wake up when the car stopped again when we got home.

Sarah enjoyed the water so much that we are going to check out the local infant water classes and sign up :)

Uncle Andy goes Solo :)

Andrew did his first solo babysitting gig today while I was playing at the band auditions. Jim had to go into the factory to supervise some engineering work and Andrew’s usual babysitting partner, Nic, also had to work, so he was by himself. And did Sarah make him earn his stripes!

She wasn’t as evil as she is to Jim (she saves that up for night time), but I did have to leave her red faced, crying and sobbing into his chest while I went back stage with the band. I’d tied Andrew up in the sling and given him a quick dance lesson on what Kerrie and I call “The Demented Bunny Hop”. He’s a quick study, and by the time I got back (about 45 minutes later) she’d calmed down and had even dropped off for a few minutes. I don’t think anyone was more amazed (or prouder ;)) than he was.

Andrew carried her back to the car for me. I’d parked over in the Myers Centre ($5 parking voucher woo hoo!) and while we were waiting for the lift, a group of women flocked around him, oohing and aahhing “Oh what a cute baby… yadda yadda yadda”

I tell you, the smile on his face was so wide it very nearly cracked it in half :)
